1. Non-Stick Pans
Why I ditched them:
Traditional non-stick pans are often coated with PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”). When heated, these coatings can break down and release toxic fumes into the air. Even worse, they can leach into your food over time. PFAS exposure has been linked to hormone disruption, immune issues, and other serious health concerns.
What I use instead:
I switched to stainless steel, cast iron, Our Place ceramic or Caraway ceramic. These are durable. non-toxic, and when used properly work just as well (if not better!) than non-stick.

2. Plastic Cooking Utensils
Why I ditched them:
Plastic and heat are not a good combination. Over time, hot food can cause plastic utensils to release microplastics and hormone-disrupting chemicals like BPA or phthalates. They also tend to melt, warp, and wear down quickly.
What I use instead:
I made the switch to wooden spoons and stainless steel utensils. Not only are they safer, but they last forever and feel so much sturdier when I cook.

3. Plastic Cutting Boards
Why I ditched them:
Every time you slice into a plastic cutting board, you’re shaving off tiny pieces of plastic that can make their way into your food. These boards also get deep grooves that trap bacteria, making them harder to keep clean.
What I use instead:
I use wood cutting boards or glass!
