3 Products I Thought Were Clean But Are Actually Disrupting Your Hormones (And What to Use Instead)
When I first started my clean living journey, I was shocked to learn that some of the most “trusted” and dermatologist-recommended products weren’t actually clean at all. They’re marketed as safe and gentle, but when you flip the label, the ingredients tell a different story.
Here are 3 everyday products that look clean on the outside BUT are loaded with hormone-disrupting chemicals and my favorite non-toxic swaps that actually support your health!!
🚫 #3 – Cetaphil
The Problem:
Cetaphil is often recommended by dermatologists and branded as gentle. But if you look at the ingredients, you’ll find synthetics, preservatives, and silicones that can:
- Irritate the skin
- Disrupt your skin barrier
- Make it easier for toxins to absorb into your body
Ingredients like Ceteareth-20 (which may contain carcinogenic 1,4-dioxane residues), dimethicone (a silicone that traps bacteria and sweat), and sodium benzoate + benzyl alcohol (preservatives linked to irritation and endocrine disruption) are far from clean.
✨ The Clean Swap:
Instead of Cetaphil, I love OSEA Body Lotion (code: CLEANLIVING). Hydration without the hormone-disrupting chemicals. Plus it feels lightweight and luxurious on your skin!!

🚫 #2 – Method Body Wash
The Problem:
Method body wash looks simple but don’t be fooled. The issue: fragrance.
That single word can hide hundreds of undisclosed chemicals including phthalates. Phthalates are hormone disruptors that can affect reproductive health and throw your hormones off balance. Synthetic fragrance blends are also notorious for causing headaches, allergies, and irritation.
✨ The Clean Swap:
My favorite non-toxic swap is Aleavia Body Wash. It’s made with prebiotics that actually feed the good bacteria on your skin, helping balance your microbiome while gently cleansing. No hidden fragrance, no hormone disruptors—just clean, skin-loving ingredients.

🚫 #1 – Flamingo Razor
The Problem:
Flamingo razors look sleek and promise smooth, hydrated skin, but the lubricating strip is where things get messy. Those strips often contain PEGs, parabens, and synthetic fragrance.
- PEGs increase your skin’s permeability, making it easier for toxins to absorb.
- Parabens mimic estrogen in the body, throwing off your hormonal balance.
- Fragrance adds another layer of undisclosed chemicals.
And because razors create tiny cuts and micro-nicks in the skin, these chemicals get direct access into your bloodstream.
✨ The Clean Swap:
I recommend switching to the Leaf Stainless Steel Razor. It has no hormone-disrupting strips and saves you money on cartridges long-term.
Why Clean Swaps Matter
Hormone disruptors aren’t always obvious. They hide in the everyday products we’re told are safe. Over time, constant exposure can add up, leading to hormone imbalances, skin irritation, and even bigger health concerns.
The good news? Making clean swaps is simple. Start with the products you use most often, like body lotion, body wash, and razors. These daily exposures matter the most—and your health is worth the upgrade.
