Toxic Products I Swapped and What I Use Now!!

If you told me a few years ago that the products I was using every single day—my face wash, my sunscreen, my body lotion—were filled with ingredients linked to hormone disruption, skin irritation, and even long-term health concerns, I probably would’ve laughed it off. But once I started reading labels and learning about what was actually in these products, I couldn’t unsee it. I was doing my best… but unknowingly coating my skin in chemicals that didn’t belong there.

This post isn’t here to shame. It’s here to empower you with knowledge I wish I had sooner. These were some of the first swaps I made on my non-toxic journey—and honestly, I’ll never go back.

🚫 1. Conventional Sunscreens

What I used to use: Chemical sunscreens with Avobenzone, Homosalate, Octisalate, and Octocrylene.
Why I stopped: These chemical filters are linked to hormone disruption and can enter the bloodstream after just one use.
What I use now:
– RMS tinted radiance serum (code: KARLY-20) (clean, mineral-based, gives a glowy finish)
– Primally Pure Sun Stick and cream (NEW!)

Looking for a clean moisturizer with SPF? Try:
– Cocokind
– Acure
– Mad Hippie
– Josh Rosebrook

Prefer a non-tinted SPF? These are great:
– Babo Botanicals
– Badger
– Sky and Sol

– Primally Pure Sun Stick and cream (NEW!)

Love a tint? These are my go-tos:
– RMS tinted radiance serum (code: KARLY-20)
– Ilia super serum skin tint

🚫 2. Cetaphil Face Wash

What I would AVOID:
Cetaphil’s “gentle” cleanser and moisturizer.

Why:
Despite the marketing, these products contain PEGs, parabens, synthetic preservatives, and sulfates—all of which can strip your skin’s natural barrier, cause irritation, and potentially disrupt hormones. Definitely not as gentle as they claim.

CLEAN SWAPS:
Indie Lee Purifying Face Wash – a clean, refreshing option that deeply cleans without stripping
RMS Beauty Gel Cleanser – gentle, nourishing, and made with clean, skin-loving ingredients

🚫 3. Aveeno Body Lotion

What I used to use: The classic Aveeno lotion with oat extract.
Why I stopped: It’s made with petrolatum, dimethicone, fragrance, and benzyl alcohol—all of which can clog pores and irritate sensitive skin.
CLEAN SWAPS:

OSEA Undaria Body Butter or Algae Oil (luxurious, non-toxic, and effective)
Aleavia Prebiotic Body Lotion (feeds your skin microbiome, ultra-hydrating)

Swapping just a few daily-use products made a huge difference in my skin and my overall health. And if you’re feeling overwhelmed, start small. Replace the one product you use most often—and build from there. You deserve products that nourish you, not harm you. 💛
